Freed, then whipped

Pity Lee Seow Poh. Or maybe not, but it sure wasn’t a good week for him.

Yes, he was freed from a Thai prison after 14 years of a life sentence for murder. But then he was deported to Singapore, and the little matter of the 1986 robbery charges while caused him to flee his country in the first place to Thailand, where he wound up killing someone.

So Singapore got him back, and in addition to putting him back inside, they whipped him, or as the Singaporeans put it delicately they gave him six strokes.

If you stroked your cat in Singapore like the government stroked citizen Lee, you’d be jailed and whipped.
