Bobby Pickett is a graveyard smash

AP reports:

He does the “Monster Mash” no more. Bobby “Boris” Pickett, whose dead-on Boris Karloff impression propelled the Halloween anthem to the top of the charts in 1962, making him one of pop music’s most enduring one-hit wonders, has died of leukemia. He was 69.
Pickett, dubbed “The Guy Lombardo of Halloween” ….

I must admit that I never heard the Guy Lombardo line. Google has five unique hits including this telling one from 1991:

“My dad says I’ve become the Guy Lombardo of Halloween. ‘Monster Mash’ is the National Anthem of Halloween.”

And that story yields one of the best celebrity-reporter name-dropping lines I’ve ever read:

I had met Pickett earlier, in the same bus, while interviewing Tiny Tim.
